Happy Half Hour Live Stamping Class

Do you guys know how excited I get going Live each Tuesday on The Joyful Stamper Facebook page?  Very!  😊  It's one of my favorite parts of the week.  I work incredibly hard at my business - and I love doing this! - but when I go Live, it feels like I'm sitting down to stamp with friends.  The fun of a live is that anything can happen!  Yes, I have projects planned and am organized, but sometimes Lily my sweet pup barks or I lose something or I forget what I'm saying or a random thought pops into my head (we call those "Deep Thoughts With Derek" in the Steele home which I'll explain in a future Live) or......anything because..... it's real life stamping with friends.  I hope you'll join me.  Look on for Tuesday's replay and project sheet with measurements.    Replay of Tuesday March 3 Happy Half Hour My plan was to teach a technique but since I was having so much trouble with it, I scrapped it.  My eye fell on the Stampin' Up! Mini Catalog and I thought of all the gorgeous samples in it and how it's not just okay but encouraged and accepted to remake them.  So that's what I did. This pretty is on page 14 of the Mini Catalog, with other Parisian Blossoms suite samples.  I made a couple substitutions, based upon what products I had. The catalog's flowers came from the Forever Blossoms Bundle but I didn't have that.  I discovered these gorgeous flowers in one of the Parisian Blossoms Designer Series Paper (DSP) patterns, though, so I cut them out with Paper Snips and stuck them on with Stampin' Dimensionals. I also substituted another Parisian Blossoms DSP pattern for the dry embossed Petal Pink cardstock piece in the original sample.  The original used the Parisian Flourish 3D Embossing Folder on a piece of Petal Pink cardstock.  In the video, I share a tip on die-cutting the intricate "merci" and preserving the tiny dot above the "i" - use a dryer sheet in your die-cut sandwich!  
Dryer Sheet Sandwich from bottom up: dryer sheet | cardstock | die This all goes between your machine's plates.  You can also see this tip here.  Next up was a sample on page 11 using products from the Tropical Oasis suite.  Hands down, this is my favorite suite in the catalog.  I have never had anything like this in my stash and it's just so FUN!!!  I love that tilted So Saffron embossed piece - that was done with the Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder.  There wasn't any splatter on the original sample, but I couldn't resist!  It's such a simple trick, too - you new stampers ought to try it!  You'll wow everyone and only you have to know how easy it was.  Simply flick the brush tip of either a Stampin' Write or Stampin' Blend Marker using its cap.  You can see how it's done in the video or see a photo of the tip here. And check out these little extras!  Noble Peacock Rhinestones (I used the Pretty Peacock ones in the package) add tropical glam.  The Braided Burlap Trim looks amazing when you pull it apart and tuck it underneath a Painted Labels die-cut.

Fun With Pleased As Punch DSP and Small Bloom Punch

Let's jump right in to today's project!  I love this sketch from Splitcoaststampers because it's perfect for using my Designer Series Paper in large pieces.  I'm definitely not a paper hoarder and yet I still have so much to use because so many pretty ones keep coming out!  In fact, just yesterday I ordered the two new Sale-A-Bration paper packs (So Very Vellum and Flowering Foils)!

I pulled out the fantastically upbeat and cheerful Pleased As Punch Designer Series Paper for this card.  Those rainbow stripes just GRAB me and I LOVE that they are not the typical ROY G BIV.  The adorable sentiment is from Under My Umbrella, a set in the Mini Catalog.    

I used the Small Bloom Punch to make a pile of flowers in Mango Melody, Coastal Cabana, and Petal Pink.  To get their wonderfully textured look, try this trick: put the flowers on a Stampin' Pierce Mat and press down in their centers with either a pencil eraser or retracted ball-point pen tip.  Then scrunch the flowers in your hands repeatedly until they are textured as you like.  The cardstock may even split but that just adds to the look!

Aren't the patterns in this pack so fun?    The Small Bloom Punch punches out the flowers you see on the 4th sheet from the right.  You can also use the Tulip Builder Punch, Umbrella Builder Punch, and Heart Punch Pack with this paper.

Trying Something Different with Tea Together, Dies, and DSP

Good Monday morning, friends!  How was your weekend?  Emma came home from college for a week-long spring break.  It's amazing to me how all can feel right in the world when one's little chicks are all under the same roof.  It also makes me happy because someone will be home with me during the day.  14 years ago, you could not have convinced me I would ever say that.  Now it fills my heart with contentment to hear someone else moving around and to be able to eat lunch together!

On to stamping.....every now and then, it's nice to have the freedom to try out an idea floating in your head.  It may not turn out like you thought, but the process of experimenting is fun!  My idea this time was to create a background using the negative die-cut space of the flower in the Tea Time dies.

I stamped the flowers (from Tea Together) on Smoky Slate cardstock, then die-cut them.  The flowers were added to the cardstock, because why waste them?  I stuck the Melon Mambo rhinestones from the Noble Peacock package to the center of each stamped flower.  I love the bit of color!

The Designer Series Paper backing the die-cut panel is from the Parisian Blossoms pack.  There are some seriously GORGEOUS patterns in that pack!  The greeting is from the set Magnolia Blooms.  You'll find that one in the Beginner's Brochure.
