Saturday Card Sketch 826 - Toile Christmas Vintage Card

This week's Splitcoaststampers sketch is easy to work with and gives you the opportunity to add many layers of loveliness, whether with patterned or specialty papers or a rainbow of colored cardstock.

I went with layers of Designer Series Paper.  Specifically, the wonderfully vintage and nostalgic Toile Tidings DSP.  I also used the stamp set Toile Christmas - it has many classic images!

I LOVE piling layers on my cards and I love letting everything "fall where it may" so that it looks natural and organic.  It doesn't always work out so that it looks nice, but when it does....YES!  

See that gold lattice behind the cardinal?  That is a Square Vellum Doily heat embossed with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder!  Just smoosh a Versamark ink pad all over a doily, sprinkle on gold powder, then melt with a Heat Tool.  Beautiful magic!

My local store overbought Reese's Cups and had them for a great price, so I scooped some up to pass out to trick-or-treaters.  Then I saw a fun holder Erica Cerwin of Pink Buckaroo Designs made and it was perfect for all the Reese's Cups I had!  Of course, I had to grunge it up a bit - it's Halloween!  I used the absolutely amazing Hallows Night Magic Bundle and Magic In This Night Designer Series Paper (it's on sale this month!)

Next up is this lollipop holder.  I like to include something fun in my Cards To Go and Creativity Kits, just to surprise and delight and say thank you.  It's fun coming up with a cute design each month!  I used both label dies from the Hallows Night Magic Bundle to cut Cherry Cobbler cardstock and 'Tis The Season 6"x6" Designer Series Paper (this, too, is on sale, and you get 48 sheets!).  The Pine Tree Punch with that paper is fabulous!  This design could easily be turned into a Christmas card!

Joy Fold and Slimline Cards with Magic In This Night - Facebook Live Class

This first card is called a Joy Fold and I found it on Splitcoaststampers (seriously, an amazing stamping resource).  I certainly went over-the-top with this and it was FUN.  I was in the stamping zone, experiencing a creative high!  Isn't it the best when you lose yourself in what you're doing?

The layers are piled on in the top front fold.  All the lovely bits and pieces are from the Magic In This Night suite in the Stampin' Up! Holiday catalog.  The label is stamped, die-cut, and colored in with Blender Pens.  I used Gorgeous Grape and Pretty Peacock ink pads to color the label.

Notice my treatment of the sentiment.  I learned these tricks from Elizabeth Price of Seeing Ink Spots, a fellow demonstrator.  Using a Water Painter, I brushed on diluted Memento Tuxedo Black Ink, then stamped the sentiment in Pretty Peacock while the paper was still damp.  The dampness caused the words to slightly bleed for a spectacularly spooky look!  Then I bent the paper in random directions to create those waves.

You untie the Metallic Mesh Ribbon to begin opening the card.  The Pumpkin Pie panel opens to the right, revealing a hint of the inside layers....

Then the left panel opens to reveal the whole showstopping inside!  I didn't try to keep the sentiment on the left panel lined up and straight - it's inked in Memento Tuxedo Black and Pretty Peacock and it was a quicky and dirty stamping job.  I wanted that imperfection!

The inside is more glorious layers.  Isn't this Magic In This Night Designer Series Paper stunning?  I get so excited every time I reach for it!  It's on sale, by the way, 15% off, as are other paper packs so take a look!  The bats are embossed on Basic Black cardstock with White Stampin' Emboss Powder and cut with the Hallows Night Magic dies.  The same technique was used on this sentiment as the front "Happy Halloween".  I used a Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Write marker to splatter those little dots.

❗ ❗ Remember, you can see how this card was made in the Live class replay at the top of this post and on my YouTube channel.

When you cut the card base for the first card (all measurements are in the Project Sheet at the top of this blog post), you're left with a 6-3/4"x8-1/2" piece which is the perfect size to make a slimline card.  Score in half at 3-3/8" and fold! 

The bottom half is a 3"x4" piece of Black Glitter Paper, die-cut with the bats from Hallows Night Magic dies.  But noticed I switched some of the bats with the top and bottom of this card!  

Did you know you can use the Hallows Night Magic dies to cut the bats from the Magic In This Night Designer Series Paper?  I did that to the top half of this card (a 3"x4" piece), then switched the bats.  The entire card was sprayed with a mixture of Champagne Shimmer Paint and 70% rubbing alcohol. 

🌞🌞 Joyful Stamper Recipe Tip: 5 drops of the paint in a Stampin' Spritzer, fill the rest of the way with the rubbing alcohol.  Use an empty Paper Pumpkin box to store your concoctions and to spray your pieces.

Iridescent Pearls were scattered on the top half.  See that little bit of Very Vanilla Scalloped Lace Trim?  I used Light Stampin' Blends in Smoky Slate and Highland Heather to quickly brush on some color.  I wanted to grunge it up to fit the Halloween theme.  The same wet stamping technique as the first card was used for the sentiment here, in Gorgeous Grape.

I wanted to incorporate the Cobwebs 3D Embossing Folder so I put a piece on the inside (it, too, has my Champagne Shimmer Paint concoction convering it).  I love those spiders crawling up the card!

Scrappy Strip Technique - Happy Half Hour Facebook Live

Hello, my joyful friends!  Every Thursday at 11 AM ET I go live on The Joyful Stamper Facebook Page.  Everyone is invited for a half hour of stamping fun!  I'll post the replay and project sheet with details below after the Live.

The first project features the scrappy strip technique.  I first saw this technique on a card done by Kylie Bertucci, an Australian Stampin' Up! demonstrator.  This is a fabulous way to use up all those random strips of cardstock and patterned paper that you don't throw away because you just know you'll find a use for them some day.  Well, some day is today!

The second project is incredibly fun!  I call it a peek-a-boo cubbyhole card.  It uses the Under My Umbrella and the Umbrella Builder punch.  The colors really grab your attention, don't they?

Facebook Live - In Color Comparison, Embossed Tile Technique, & a Super Simple Card

I'm super excited about today's projects!  One features a beautiful trick with embossing folders and the other a cute way to showcase the rainbow of new In Colors.

Stampin' Up! heard every stamper's plea for more masculine sets, paper, and embellishments.  Flip through the Mini Catalog and you'll find several fantastic bundles and suites suitable for those MAN cards.  Let's take a closer look at a few.

By The Dock Bundle
Found on page 49 of the 2020 Mini Catalog, it's a stamp and die bundle (also available separately).  It's outdoorsy with a relaxed, peaceful vibe and the line art makes it wonderful for those who love to color.  But the coordinating dies cut out almost every image in this set, so you could skip the coloring by stamping on colored cardstock and die-cutting.  You also can build a scene with the stamps and dies!  Take a look at the Stampin' Up! video below:

Mountain Air Bundle This is another great outdoors set, using the mountains and forests for inspiration, found on pages 52-53 of the 2020 Mini Catalog.  The word "majestic" comes to mind when I look at these images.  A unique feature of the Mountain Air set is its ability to be stamped using both the front and back sides of each image.  Ink up one side to get the fabulous detail and ink up the other side to add solid color to the detail.  No coloring skills (or patience) required!  The coordinating die set makes simple work of cropping trees, clouds, and mountains for great scene-building effects.  Watch the Stampin' Up! video below to see it in action: 

Create shadow and silhouette effects with the solid side of the stamp images.
Stamp the Mountain Air trees in all of Stampin' Up!'s green shades, then die-cut and layer for an unusually multi-toned look.

Outdoor Barbecue (my personal favorite!) Fire up the creative grill!  It's time to make an awesome man card!  I love that "Holy smokes it's your birthday" sentiment.  You could use the flame to tell your man you think he's smokin' hot, too!  😉  Oh, the fun to be had with this set!  You can find it on page 50 of the 2020 Mini Catalog.

Create pocket card invitations to your next backyard barbecue or "light up" your greeting with that flame.

Country Club Suite Argyle and plaid are prominently featured in the Designer Series Paper and 3D Embossing Folder in this suite.  Wood Accents and a Twine Combo Pack in bright classic colors let you add fun embellishments and still keep the card masculine.  The Wood Accents can be colored with Stampin' Blends, heat embossed, covered with Designer Series Paper, or stamped with ink.  See it all on pages 46-48 in the 2020 Mini Catalog.  Get a close-up of the Country Club Designer Series Paper in the Stampin' Up! video below:
