CASEing the Sale-A-Bration Catalog

When you want to stamp but you don't know where to start (or you don't feel like thinking up something), just open your Stampin' Up! catalog!  They do a fabulous job filling it with beautiful samples, all for our inspiration.  

On page 14 of the 2020 Sale-A-Bration catalog, in the top left corner, is a gorgeous card and it's meant to feature the Stone 3D Embossing Folder.  However, I don't have that folder so I did a simple little trick that still adds texture.  Read on for the details!

I started with a Calypso Coral card base, cut to 5-1/2"x8-1/2", scored and folded in half at 4-1/4".  Next, I cut a 5-1/4"x4" piece of Calypso Coral cardstock and used a Stampin' Spritzer to mist it with water.  The water makes the cardstock soft for what I did next - I crumpled it into a ball!  Don't be gentle, either - squeeze it tight, unfold it, then crumple it again.  This is one time you WANT all those folds and wrinkles!

Use a Heat Tool to dry it, or you can set it aside to dry naturally.  Next, use a Stampin' Sponge to lightly dab Versamark ink in random spots on the wrinkled cardstock.  Sprinkle on Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder, then melt with a Heat Tool.  Stunning!  And yet another technique where imperfection adds to its beauty (see another one here).  The best adhesives for attaching a piece like this are either Mini Glue Dots or Stampin' Dimensionals.

Now add a 5-1/2"x1" Petal Pink cardstock strip.  Tie Petal Pink Metallic Edge Ribbon around the card in a bow.  Go big with that bow!  This ribbon is gorgeous and we want it to get noticed.  Die-cut a label from Stitched So Sweetly dies in Petal Pink cardstock and stamp the sentiment from Free As A Bird in Early Espresso ink.  Attach to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.  Add three Pearls underneath the sentiment.  Last, use Paper Snips to cut an image from a piece of Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper and glue with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Stamping is supposed to be FUN, so if coming up with original designs is stressful for you, DON'T!  Just pull out your Stampin' Up! catalogs and find something to recreate.  You can copy the sample exactly, or change a couple things based on what you have in your stamping area.

Splitcoaststampers Card Sketch 787

Valentine's Day is getting closer!  I love to surprise and delight the people that come to my monthly library stamp class, so DSP and candy were sprawled across my desk a couple nights ago.  Alaina saw the pile of goodness and asked if I would make Valentine's Day treats for her friends.  Um....YES!  I have just enough From My Heart Specialty Designer Series Paper left to make the 7 candy holders she requested.  Don't you find it incredibly satisfying to use up all of something?  I do!

This sketch got my heart racing with all its lovely layers and embellishment opportunities!  

I mixed patterns in the From My Heart Specialty DSP for two of the layers.  That's the beauty of Stampin' Up! DSP - the sheets can be easily mixed because they put color and pattern coordination into every package.  And every pattern in this package is adorable!

I stamped the "Love," image from Heartfelt three times in Versamark ink on a skinny strip of Basic Black cardstock, then sprinkled on White Stampin' Emboss Powder, and melted it with a Heat Tool.  A Rhinestone Basic Jewel anchors the strip.  

Look at the layers underneath the sentiment - a Real Red Heart Doily (that package got used up, too!); a scalloped punched lacy heart stamped in Red Real ink on Whisper White cardstock; and an arrow stamped in Flirty Flamingo ink on Whisper White cardstock, then fussy cut with Paper Snips.  😍

Is It Ok To Have Purple Snowmen?

So did you watch the Super Bowl last night?  What about The Masked Singer?  I'm more into the latter than the former, but Alaina made our famous brownie recipe AND frosted them with our homemade chocolate icing.  I had to hang around the big football showdown just to have some!  The commercials were great - I laughed quite a bit and the one about the Wisconsin School of Veterninary Medicine tugged at my heart.  I heard on the radio that the man whose dog's life was saved personally paid for that commercial in appreciation of the vets.  What?!?!?  It was $5.7 million for a 30 second spot!

If you read my blog regularly (thank you!), you know I LOVE challenges!  I played along with Handstamped Sentiments winter inspiration challenge today.  Ooohh, I LOVE winter!!  Here in Pittsburgh, it's not been a great one for a winter-enthusiast like me but yesterday morning I woke to snow flurries and it sent me into raptures.  It sent my poor husband into fits of sorrow.

I had to resurrect Snowman Season and the Snowman Builder Punch.  I also used the color combination and ribbon technique from Friday's post.  And I made my snowmen purple (Highland Heather to be exact)!  Who says your stamp images have to reflect reality?  No one!

See that striped background?  Grab your favorite Stampin' Blends markers and use the brush tips to draw lines across a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Don't worry about keeping the lines straight and evenly spaced.  The fun of this look is in its imperfection.  Cut several pieces of Whisper White cardstock (try 5"x3") and check out my Pinterest color board for some ideas I've curated.
