Monthly Stamp Class Cards + a Giveaway!

Once a month, customers, team members, friends, and my mom gather to stamp.  I design the cards and have everything prepped and organized in envelope packets for them.  A lot of times, the inspiration for the cards is drawn from the Stampin' Up! catalogs (and if you would like to see all that inspiration yourself, request a catalog package.  I send them out at no charge!).

gilded autumn designer series paper, fall card, brushed metallic cardstock, embossing metallic paper, birthday card, handmade cards, stampin' up!, nicole steele, the joyful stamper, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsbugh pa

We played with a mix of old and new this month and I'm showing two of the projects today.  The first card above has a gorgeous color combination of Mint Macaron, Cajun Craze, and Copper, pulled entirely from the palette in the Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper.

The Brushed Metallic Cardstock in copper was embossed with the Tasteful Textiles 3D Embossing Folder.  This folder is all-purpose and I love the subtle texture of the background.

👉GIVEAWAY ALERT:I'm giving one away this Thursday - just share this Facebook Live class by hitting the share button, then type "shared" in the comments so I know to enter your name.  One person's name will be drawn to win this embossing folder!👈

The Brushed Metallic Cardstock was also used to cut sprigs using the Poinsettia Dies.

The sentiment is stamped on Very Vanilla and Early Espresso layers cut from the Stitched Nested Labels Dies.

Measurements for Happy Birthday Autumn card:
  • Mint Macaron - 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", folded in half at 4-1/4"
  • Brushed Metallic Cardstock - 4-3/4" x 4"; scrap for die-cut sprig
  • Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper - 3-3/4" x 1-3/8" (3 pieces)
  • Very Vanilla - 3" x 1-1/2"
  • Early Espresso - 3-1/4" x 1-3/4"

flocked paper, sympathy card, strength and peace, handmade cards, stampin' up!, nicole steele, the joyful stamper, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsbugh pa

The stamp class attendees always want to keep sympathy cards on hand.  I thought combining the flocked Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper with Balmy Blue and Smoky Slate gave a lot of interest in a quiet, understated manner befitting a sympathy card.  I love the slightly milky look the flocking-on-vellum gives.  The Poinsettia Dies were used again to cut a sprig from Silver Foil Sheets.

Blue Adhesive-Backed Gems were brought in for a little touch of iridescence.

The dove is stamped in Versamark ink, then heat embossed with Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder.  This particular dove is retired but the Dove Of Hope Bundle gives you multiple dove images, both stamped and die-cut, to choose from.

Measurement for With Sympathy card:
  • Balmy Blue - 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", folded in half at 4-1/4"; 3" x 2-1/4" (greeting label)
  • Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper - 4" x 3"
  • Smoky Slate - 4-1/8" x 3-1/8"
  • Whisper White - 3" x 3-1/4" to stamp dove
  • Silver Foil - scrap to die-cut sprig

Saturday Sketch 816 - Timeless Tropical

Summer is still going full force here in southwestern Pennsylvania, so I had palm trees on the mind when I saw this week's sketch from Splitcoaststampers.

card sketch, how to make a card, card design, card layout, splitcoaststampers, stampin up, cardmaking, learn to stamp, how to stamp

I made this card on my Happy Half Hour Facebook Live this past Thursday, on the fly.  You can see the replay here, with this card beginning at 36:10.

timeless tropical, in the tropics dies, stampin' up!, die-cut techniques, tropical, splitcoaststampers, card sketch, challenges, nicole steele, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsburgh pa

See how the cut palm trees are slightly off-set from where I cut them?  That's a technique called Die-Cut Shadowing.  I cut the palm trees from the middle of that Flirty Flamingo piece, then cut 2 more palm tree images, making sure one of them was stamped first.  I then stack and glue them together to give them more "oomph".

dragonfly dreams, stampin' up!, die-cut techniques, tropical, splitcoaststampers, card sketch, challenges, nicole steele, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsburgh pa

I pulled out some retired product and used the same card sketch and same technique for my second card.  The stamp set is Dragonfly Dreams and the dies are Detailed Dragonflies.

See how they pop off the card?  These dragonflies are stacked and glued with a Fine Tip Glue Pen.  It really isn't as hard as it seems.

Place a $35 order in my store by midnight August 30 using the Host Code CQZC2A29 and you'll get the kits to make both of my Facebook Live projects PLUS the dragonfly bonus one above!  The project sheet for my Facebook projects can be found in this post.

Mystery Snowflake Wishes

This past Sunday night we played Mystery Stamping Hour on the Facebook group page I created just for these events.  They happen every month and are free and open to everyone!  What is a Mystery Stamping Hour?  Read about it here!

Everyone's card turns out different even though we follow the same steps.  And no one knows what the next step will be - that's the mystery part!  I post a supplies list 2 days prior to the event so that we're prepared for what's to come.

My card used the Snowflake Wishes Bundle in Stampin' UP!'s Holiday Mini catalog.  Do you ever stamp on your Designer Series Paper?  It's a small detail that makes a greeting stand out.  It's also another way to use that paper!  There's no fun in hoarding it - we bought it to be used and there's sure to be more pretty papers coming along.  Dig in and cut it up!  The paper I stamped my greeting on is from the Snowflake Splendor pack

I also used other items from the Snowflake Splendor suite the bundle and paper are a part of: Blue Adhesive-Backed Gems and Snowflake Splendor 1/4" Ribbon.  Can you see the sparkle in that ribbon?  It's gorgeous!

Take a look at some of the other cards from that evening's fun:

Prized Peony Cards from a Friend

My friend Bonnie recently returned to stamping and sent me a photo of what she'd made.  Her cards were so beautiful that I asked for her permission to share them here.  The wonderful part is that while the results look stunning and over-the-top, these cards are something anyone can make!  Let's get into the details.

prized peony bundle, prized peony stamps and dies, peony garden suite, peony garden dsp, patterned paper, stampin' up!, vintage cards, square vellum doilies, triple time stamping technique, nicole steele, the joyful stamper, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsburgh pa

Card #1 (on the left)
  1. Cut a Thick Whisper White card base to 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and fold in half at 4-1/4".  Ink edges with Basic Gray ink and a Sponge Dauber.
  2. Cut Peony Garden Designer Series Paper (DSP) to 4" x 5-1/4".  Lightly distress edges by using either your finger nail or the blades of a pair of Paper Snips.  Glue to card base with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
  3. Glue a Square Vellum Doily to card with Mini Glue Dots.  Place the glue dots where they will be hidden by the peony in the next step.
  4. Stamp image from Prized Peony set on Whisper White cardstock in Magenta Madness ink.  Cut with Peony Dies.  Attach to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  5. Add Elegant Faceted Gems with the Take Your Pick Tool.
  6. Stamp a Whisper White Medium Envelope to match your card.

Card #2 (on the right)
  1. Cut a Gray Granite card base to 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and fold in half at 4-1/4".
  2. Cut 3 Whisper White layers to 4" x 5-1/4"; 3" x 4-1/4"; 2" x 3-1/4".  Stack them, largest on the bottom to smallest on the top.  Randomly stamp images from Prized Peony set in Basic Gray and Petal Pink inks.  Take care not to shift the panels while stamping.  Applying a very small bit of Stampin' Seal to attach the layers together will help to keep them in place while still allowing for separation when done stamping.
  3. Cut 2 Gray Granite layers to 2-1/4" x 3-1/2" and 3-1/4" x 4-1/2".
  4. Separate stamped Whisper White layers from Step 2.  Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue, attach largest panel to card base; medium panel to largest Gray Granite panel; smallest panel to smallest Gray Granite panel.
  5. Use Stampin' Dimensionals to glue medium panels to card base.  Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue to attach smallest panels to card.
  6. Stamp peony from Prized Peony in Basic Gray ink on Whisper White cardstock. Use a Sponge Dauber to apply Petal Pink ink to the flower.  Start with a light layer and move in gentle circles.  Repeat to add more color until you get the shading you like.  Cut with Peony dies.
  7. Stamp leaves in Old Olive ink on Whisper White cardstock.  Cut with Peony dies.
  8.  Cut a length of Petal Pink Organdy Striped Ribbon and fold in half (Bonnie used the Petal Pink Metallic-Edged Ribbon from the previous Occasions Mini Catalog).  Attach to card with Mini Glue Dot.
  9. Attach leaves and peony from steps 6 and 7 with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  10. Stamp greeting on Petal Pink cardstock in Basic Gray ink.  Trim with Paper Snips and glue to card with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
  11. Add Elegant Faceted Gems with a Take Your Pick Tool.
  12. Stamp a Whisper White Medium Envelope to match your card.

A huge thank you to Bonnie for sharing her gorgeous cards and sharing how she made them!  You can get the supplies for these cards in my store.  Shop with me and earn Joyful Stamper Rewards points!

Saturday Sketch 815 - Zany Zebras Rainbow Card

This sketch STUMPED me at first.  That parallelogram is what stopped me in my tracks.  I'm sure there is a die somewhere in the stamping universe to cut that shape, but being creative means coming up with solutions based upon my available resources.  And I was successful!  There's a video and written pdf to save, pin, or print below this post.

Tri-Fold Accordion Christmas Card using Poinsettia Petals Bundle and DSP

Hello, my joyful friends!  Every Thursday at 11 AM ET I go live on The Joyful Stamper Facebook Page.  Everyone is invited for a half hour of stamping fun!  You'll find the replay below showing how to make the following Tri-Fold Accordion Card.  I also have the dimensions listed below this post.

tri-fold accordion card, christmas card, poinsettia petals, poinsettia place suite, stampin' up!, holiday cards, fun fold card ideas, velvet paper, nicole steele, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsburgh pa, the joyful stamper

I first saw this card made by Tina Zinck, a Canadian Stampin' Up demonstrator and thought, "Wow!  A fun fold that is easy and lets me use multiple paper patterns!"  Often, the patterns are so pretty in a Designer Series Paper pack (DSP) that I can't decide which to use.

tri-fold accordion card, christmas card, poinsettia petals, poinsettia place suite, stampin' up!, holiday cards, fun fold card ideas, velvet paper, nicole steele, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsburgh pa, the joyful stamper

I die-cut 2 of the smaller label from the Halloween Magic dies using the wood grain pattern of the Poinsettia Place DSP.  The greetings are from Poinsettia Petals and are stamped in Early Espresso ink right on the DSP.  One label is glued to the first (front) fold and the second label is glued directly behind it on the second fold.  When the card is closed, the second label is hidden behind the first.

tri-fold accordion card, christmas card, poinsettia petals, poinsettia place suite, stampin' up!, holiday cards, fun fold card ideas, velvet paper, nicole steele, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsburgh pa, the joyful stamper

I also die-cut from Very Vanilla cardstock and the Ornate Layers Dies a panel for the inside of the card.  I love this sprig image from Poinsettia Petals!  The sprig outline is stamped in Early Espresso ink and I used the berries fill-in stamp in Real Red ink.  This is a great set if you don't want to color because there are many fill-in stamps like this for the leaves and poinsettias, too.

tri-fold accordion card, christmas card, poinsettia petals, poinsettia place suite, stampin' up!, holiday cards, fun fold card ideas, velvet paper, nicole steele, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsburgh pa, the joyful stamper

Look at that layered poinsettia!!  I die-cut it from Red Velvet Paper and the embossed details are stunning.  The Red Velvet embosses so deeply and it adds rich detail.  I can't wait to try it with a full-size embossing folder to use as a background!  The Beaded Pearl embellishments add a fancy touch to the flower center.

Joyful Stamper Tip: if you don't want the pearls to be white, color them with Stampin' Blends to make them any shade you like.

tri-fold accordion card, christmas card, poinsettia petals, poinsettia place suite, stampin' up!, holiday cards, fun fold card ideas, velvet paper, nicole steele, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsburgh pa, the joyful stamper

Another simple detail that takes this card over-the-top is the curling of the petals.  To achieve that look, use a Bone Folder, just like curling ribbons for gift wrapped packages (I demonstrate this in the replay beow).

tri-fold accordion card, christmas card, poinsettia petals, poinsettia place suite, stampin' up!, holiday cards, fun fold card ideas, velvet paper, nicole steele, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsburgh pa, the joyful stamper

When making the Tri-Fold Accordion Card, you can score the cardstock and fold it like this....

tri-fold accordion card, christmas card, poinsettia petals, poinsettia place suite, stampin' up!, holiday cards, fun fold card ideas, velvet paper, nicole steele, independent stampin' up! demonstrator, pittsburgh pa, the joyful stamper

Or you can glue together the panels between the first and second mountain folds so that the card opens like turning the pages of a book.
