New Online Class This Sunday!

The first class features the set Friend Like You.  The sentiments and fonts are playful, happy, and fun!  And they cover celebrations and thank yous, two of the most popular cards to send.

How the Class Works

All classes will be in the special group I created here.  This makes it easy for you to find the class you want to take!  It also allows you to take the class when it best suits you - late night stamper?  Morning stamper?  You're covered!

On the day and time specified, I'll go live to create the class projects.  This is your opportunity to ask questions and be a part of a live online class atmosphere with all the fun that entails (the recorded replay will be available to watch any time, though, if you can't make the live).  I'll also post a pdf instructional sheet with photos and steps to complete the projects.  

You'll have the option to order a cut cardstock pack that will include the cut and scored cardstock, ribbon, embellishments, and envelopes to make 2 each of the 4 designs (8 projects total).  You can use your own stamps, ink, and adhesive or order what I used in my store.  Make sure to use this month's Code RT9EM96T so you earn Joyful Stamper Rewards Points (get the details and a tracking sheet here).

6 Days of Halloween - Day 2

Welcome back, friends!  Did you like yesterday's Mini Treat Bag tutorial?  Let me know!  To show my gratitude to my frequent blog readers, customers, and commenters (that's you!) I am having a 6-day blog series that's all about Halloween treat holders.  Each day I'll show a project and give you a free tutorial that has photos and detailed steps so you can make them, too!  They're FUN!

We're on Day 2 and it's a Snack Size Candy Holder.

I put a Kit-Kat in mine but other brands work (Nestle, Milky Way, etc.).  These holders were a HIT when I passed them out to trick-or-treaters a couple years ago.  They also are quick to make, so if you have many to make this is a perfect project.  I love how the Ornate Frames dies show off Mr. Dracula here (he's from the Spooktacular Bash set).  There is a ghost in the set that would work just as well here if you want a cuter look (anyone remember Casper The Friendly Ghost?).

Halloween Coffin Wreath Tutorial

There is so much going on in the stamping world so hang on for all the news!

In a Stampin' Up! video about a month ago, I got a brief look at a wreath made from the coffin treat boxes - my jaw dropped and I thought, "I HAVE to make that!"  So I did!  It took some experimenting and playing around but I made a tutorial for you so that you can just dive right in and make your own coffin wreath.

TGIF and Splitcoatstampers Challenges

Woo-hoo!  I got to stamp this past weekend!  After being on Hilton Head Island for a week, then jumping right into our church's kids' Bible camp, it had been a few weeks since I'd created anything.  Sometimes that break is a good thing, though, because I find the ideas come easily after returning from one.

I made this for TGIF's #tgifc220 and Splitcoaststamper's CC747 challenges.  TGIF's is a sketch challenge and Splitcoaststamper's is a color challenge, so combining the two allowed me to focus on the elements of my card.  I had to substitute the retired Primrose Petals for Rococo Rose since I did not have any of the latter, but it worked!

As I was coloring the images from the Free As A Bird stamp set, my mind wandered to time spent at my parents' camp in the Allegheny National Forest near Tionesta, PA.  They have a big front porch with rocking chairs and, when my three girls were small, we'd sit there with my mother as she played bird calls on this little machine she had.  The machine came with cards that had calls from loads of bird species recorded on them.  Whichever bird the girls wanted to call, my mom would put the proper card in the machine and the girls spent so many hours having fun trying to lure real birds to call back.  My mom also had a hummingbird feeder on the porch and it was constantly seeing activity.  The girls loved seeing how long they could sit quietly so as to attract more hummingbirds to the feeder - sometimes there were so many they'd "flit" each other away so as to get a drink!  My daughters' sweet excitement and joy in God's creation is such a beautiful memory.

I encourage you to play along in challenges like these two if you find yourself short on stamping time or in a creative rut.  They really are fun, plus you get to see others' takes on the same challenge.

Using Up DSP Scraps To Make Birthday Cards

Stampin' Up!'s DSP packs are beautiful and fun and a joy to use.  I happily cut into the sheets and create cards, scrapbook pages, and 3D projects.  Then I look at the small mountain of various scraps leftover and they are just too gorgeous to throw away, but what to do with them?  Do you have this problem, too?  These two birthday cards show a way to creatively use them.

Both birthday cards use scraps from the Bird Ballad DSP pack.  In the first card, I used them to create a cake, complete with candles on the top.  The candles from the Birthday Backgrounds set got their dual colors from using markers to color directly on the stamp.  The stamp is actually longer but I wanted just three candles for my cake topper.  

The second card uses scraps to make a present, complete with whisper white baker's twine and a hand-cut tagged stamped with a flower from the Perennial Birthday set.  The large sentiment on both cards is also from that set.  Isn't the font FUN?

The DSP scraps idea and card layouts come from my amazing upline's Cheat Sheets Collections (a great design resource for cardmakers that offers layouts, instructions, and measurements).  

Think of all the fun combinations you could create with your DSP scraps!  I know you have them, so don't let them languish and go to waste.
