Embossing Folder Technique

You are going to love this easy technique that lets you turn your embossing folders into stamps!

Tap an ink pad on the raised side of an embossing folder (Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder used on this card).  Lay your cardstock on the inked side of the folder, right side down, and gently tap with your fingers.  Remove the cardstock and check it out!  The folder's pattern transfers to your cardstock!  If you want the image to fully transfer, close the folder and firmly run a stamping block over it.

Nicole's Favorites from the Stampin' Up! Mini Catalog

You should probably get yourself a snack and drink, because I have a lot of favorites (this is my favorite catalog ever in the 20 years I've been using Stampin' Up!).  I also will tell you that I don't always buy everything in a suite.  My policy is to buy what I absolutely love, so that's what I'm showing you.  

The Botanical Prints Medley combines the convenience and product coordination of a kit with the creative freedom to make whatever you like.  Love that!

The realistic, solid images are what drew my eye to this set.  That makes it easy to ink and stamp in one color, or get creative and use sponge daubers to add multiple colors to the image.  I also love the "Hugs Prayers Love" sentiment.  **Heads up: coming in February are dies to go with this set** 

Imagine the adorable possibilities with this bundle!  Stamp and punch umbrellas on colored cardstock, or use Designer Series Paper for a playful touch.  Use the flower images to stamp a background, or add them to the boots for cheerful note.  The "Hello Sunshine" sentiment is a favorite of mine since I send a lot of Thinking of You cards.

The name of these dies describes them perfectly.  Every time I've used them on a project, my first words are, "These are so sweet!"  I have an idea to die-cut and layer every single one of those stitched scalloped rectangles using a fun mix of Designer Series Paper.

Parisian Blossoms Suite

My favorite thing about this ribbn is that it's pink and has a soft shine.  It ties easily into nice, chubby bows and just makes me happy!

I squealed out loud when I saw these in the catalog!  Champagne is a soft, warm metallic and it look beautiful with the rest of the Parisian Blossoms suite.

Following through with the Champagne theme, this paper has touches of Champagne Foil in it.  I love the paper as is, but I also love sponging Soft Suede ink on it to give it a vintage flair.

This bundle is unlike anything I have in my collection, so I had to get them.  The Eiffel Tower dies cut out both the stamped image and a stand-alone detailed image.  

Tropical Oasis Suite

My favorite thing about this trim is that it can be easily frayed by gently pulling apart the fibers.  Love that look!

The many bright colors of this Designer Series Paper won my heart, but then I saw the pineapples and I can't stop playing with it!

That little pineapple!  The palm trees!  The fonts!  *swoon*  I don't usually get dies that match so specifically with one stamp set, but I LOVE these shapes and images.  I have nothing like these and am in anticipation of the hours of fun to be had!

Peaceful Poppies Suite

The colors grabbed my eye, but I am especially partial to that third pattern from the left.  The Pool Party background mixed with the Poppy Parade poppies is gorgeous!

I almost didn't get these because all I saw were the printed and colored die-cuts.  But then I saw there were printed vellum, printed watercolor, and printed black die-cuts and I had to try them.  Wow!  My favorite so far is to use Stampin' Blends Markers to color on the backside of the printed vellum pieces.  It's a showstopper!

This is a fantastic, all-purpose sentiment set.  This + Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper + Peaceful Poppies Elements would make all the gorgeous cards you'd need.  I love the swirliness of the font, too!

See those splatters and watercolor wash images in the Painted Poppies set?  You can use those to add color to the outline images!  And it looks breathtaking!  The dies are versatile because I can pair images and sentiments from other sets with them (although there are dies to cut the poppies and leaves from Painted Poppies).  That little fancy scallop trim piece will look so sweet peeking from a cardstock layer!

Happy New Year From The Tropics!

Well, not really.  I'm not in the tropics.  Brian wishes he was in the tropics.  I wish there was a foot of snow on the ground.  But it has felt like spring the last week here in Pittsburgh, PA and it's the end of December so that's pretty tropical in my book.  

My point is Happy New Year!

Did you stay in?  Go out?  Years and years ago, Brian and I went to Times Square to watch the ball drop.  The crowd was sectioned off in "holding pens" for safety and once you were in, you were in until midnight.  We got there around 6pm and quickly realized the smart, experienced celebrants wore adult diapers - no joke!  The confetti that rained down at midnight was spectacular.  That feeling of finally being a part of something huge you've only witnessed on TV for years was incredible.

The Tropical Oasis suite took my breath away when I first saw it in the 2020 Mini Catalog (request a catalog package here).  The MANY bright colors caught my eye first, quickly followed by the stamp and die images.  I actually felt my heart beat a bit faster as I pored over the suite pages.  Let's check out all the details on this card!  

Yes, these flowers in the stamp set have a die, so if you don't like fussy cutting, yay!  I frayed the ends of the Braided Burlap Trim so that it would stand out more.  To do this, gently pull the sides of the trim with your right and left hands until it's separated to your liking.  I used Mini Glue Dots to stick the trim down on my card. 

Can you see the subtle woven background?  I tapped a Soft Suede ink pad on the raised pattern side of the Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder, then laid a piece of So Saffron cardstock on it.  Lightly pressing the paper with my fingers transferred the pattern.  I love how some spots didn't transfer as strongly as others - that variation is wonderful!  

I used the Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder in the more traditional way here.

In addition to dies for the flowers in the Timeless Tropical stamp set, there are dies to cut palm tree fronds.  I cut a bunch in Pear Pizzazz and used Stampin' Dimensionals to tuck them behind the flowers.

To color the flowers, use Sponge Daubers.  Slip one on your finger, tap it on the ink pad of your choice, then apply the color in a circular motion, using a light touch.  You can layer color using this method, going darker with each application, or use multiple colors.  

I went too dark with the flower centers, so I added Gold Faceted Gems to hide it a bit.

It tickled me to no end to find the "thank you" sentiment in Timeless Tropical fit inside this leaf die!  I stamped the leaf in Pear Pizzazz ink on Pear Pizzazz cardstock, then die-cut it with the coordinating In The Tropics dies.  

And do you see that paper?  *sigh*  Tropical Oasis it's called.  It's lovely, and it's available January 3, which is THIS Friday!
