The Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine comes with all the plates you need to begin die-cutting and embossing right out of the box.  The Magnetic Cutting Plate is a thin, fully magnetic sheet that securely holds dies in place.  It isn't necessary for using your new machine but it does make it easier to secure the metal dies on cardstock.
