Another Masculine Card Using High Tide + Video

I've been showing love to sets in the Annual Catalog recently.  Yes, the Holiday and current Mini Catalogs are amazing and exciting, but the Annual Catalog is 212 pages of loveliness itself!  I shopped my stash and pulled out High Tide.  Tha nautical images are fantastic for layering to create depth and to make water scenes.  Monday's post featured a card using High Tide for someone not expected to get better.  Today's card has a sentiment that makes it all-purpose and great for any occasion.  I like to shake up my projects by using quotes rather than the standard "happy birthday" or "thank you".  I adore words, and a card is a perfect canvas for using them in interesting ways!

Timeless Tropical for Splitcoaststampers Card Sketch 790 + Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks

It's never too late for an old dog to learn new tricks....me being the old dog.  I spent yesterday hanging out with my 7 year old niece, who is a whiz at jumping rope.  She's in a traveling club at her school.  I learned all kinds of jump rope moves and routines - combinations of heel and toe moves; front, back, and side kicks; in and out - and I learned this at almost 45 years of age!  In my front yard!  In front of my neighbors!  It was so fun, I took my niece to a PJ Dance Party at my local library that night and threw myself into jumping, skipping, shaking, wiggling, and spying for animals in the jungle.  It was exhilarating!

Splitcoaststampers Card Sketch 790

Have you been considering trying something new?  How about stamping?
  • Pick a sketch
  • Pick a pack of Designer Series Paper
  • Choose three colors of cardstock that coordinate from the Designer Series Paper
  • Pick a stamp set and one color of ink

Stampin' Up!'s Timeless Tropical bundle and Tropical Oasis Designer Series Paper friendship card

Let's break down how I followed the steps above.
  • Pick a sketch: Splitcoaststampers weekly card sketch 790 used here
  • Pick a pack of Designer Series Paper: I used Tropical Oasis (LOVE the wild bursts of color)!
  • Choose 3 colors of cardstock that coordinate with the DSP: Lovely Lipstick, Old Olive, and Daffodil Delight work!
  • Pick a stamp set and one color of ink: the Timeless Tropical set and an Early Espresso ink pad

Stampin' Up!'s Timeless Tropical bundle and Tropical Oasis Designer Series Paper friendship card

Many stampers' first technique was heat embossing.  I used it on this card.  Stamp your image in Versamark ink, sprinkle embossing powder on the stamped image, and tap off the excess.  The powder will stick to the Versamark ink and you then use a Heat Tool to melt the powder.  Just plug it in, turn it on, and point the heat at the image.  Then watch the magic happen!  The powder melts and turns shiny!

By Your Side card using High Tide

What kind of card do you send someone who just isn't going to get better?  What should it say?  What should the colors be?

Recently, I was approached with that challenge.  Combing through my supplies, I came up with several sets that had appropriate sentiments for that situation.

Masculine encouragement card using Stampin' Up!'s High Tide lighthouse and seashore set

The first set I discovered was High Tide.  This particular sentiment strikes just the right note for a card in which the person isn't going to get better.  It lets s/he simply know that you are right there with them to walk this journey.  The understated, neutral colors of Sahara Sand and Night Of Navy are appropriate for a man or woman and, combined with the nautical theme, produces a gentle feel.  Water has long been known to naturally relax and calm people.

Masculine encouragement card using Stampin' Up!'s High Tide lighthouse and seashore set

To add dimension to the card, I used the largest square from Stitched Shapes dies to remove a portion of the rectangle panel.  I stamped the sentiment in full-strength Night of Navy and the birds in stamped-off-once Sahara Sand.  Then I used Multi Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere it to the Night Of Navy card base, inside its own negative space.  The Sahara Sand panel is adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals to give the inlaid square a recessed look.

The lighthouse is stamped in Night Of Navy ink on Sahara Sand cardstock and cut with Paper Snips before adhering to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

For the full step-by-step directions to make this card, just click the image below to pin, download, or print the tutorial.

Tomorrow on my weekly Happy (half) Hour Stamping Class on my Facebook page, I'll show another card of this type using a different stamp set.  Make sure to join me at 2 PM ET.  As awkward and challenging these types of situations feel to us, it is important and worth the extra effort to make and send these kinds of cards.  When I resist sending a card because I feel inadequate, I remember this from Proverbs 25:11 - "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver" - in other words, valuable and precious to the other person!

Facebook Live Bonus & Sweet 'N Simple Class Projects

I shared these projects as bonuses on my Tuesday Facebook Live Stamping Class.  I call it the Happy (half) Hour because I keep it to around a half hour and it's happy!  You can watch the replay on my blog, on Facebook, or on my YouTube channel (make sure to follow me or subscribe to my channel).

We also made these - along with the original projects in the Live - in my monthly Sweet 'N Simple class.  If you live in the Pittsburgh, PA area, this is your invitation to attend.  I LOVE stamping with others and it doesn't matter what your experience level is - you are welcome at my Stamping Cottage!  Check out my Class and Event page.

Mash up of Pleased As Punch and Golden Honey Specialty Designer Series Paper

I saw another demonstrator use the striped Golden Honey Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) with the Pleased As Punch DSP hearts.  It's a striking look so I let that inspire this card.  The hearts were punched with the Heart Punch Pack.  I added an additional piece of the Golden Honey DSP that had been die-cut with the Stitched So Sweetly dies.  After die-cutting it, I cut it in half length-wise to stretch it underneath the striped piece.  Those are Clear Faceted Gems anchoring the greeting (from Timeless Tulips).

Pleased As Punch Designer Series Paper and Small Bloom Punch

This card has some crazy colors going on!  The striped paper is from the Pleased As Punch DSP.  You won't find it in any Stampin' Up! catalog.  It's an out-of-publication item that was just introduced and will be here until March 31 or while suppies last, whichever comes first.  The flowers are also from that same pack of DSP.  I used the free Level 2 Sale-A-Bration Small Bloom Punch on them and attached them with Stampin' Dimensionals to a Stitched So Sweetly die-cut.  The greeting is from Timeless Tulips (there's a lot of great sentiments covering many occasions in that set!).

Pleased As Punch Designer Series Paper and Small Bloom Punch

Easy technique tip: tear your cardstock!  I tore in half a piece of Mango Melody cardstock, then flipped each piece so that the torn side was visible.  For added texture, use your fingernail to curl the cardstock edges.  Don't you love what it adds to the card? 👏

With this plethora of colors, you have your choice of ribbon!  In this case, I tied a piece of Grapefruit Grove Grosgrain Ribbon in a bow and attached it with a Mini Glue Dot.  Grapefruit Grove is an In Color that's retiring this year, so I'm trying to use up my stash of it.  This was actually my last piece of this ribbon, so I'm doing good!

Splitcoaststampers Card Sketch 789

I have never been one to watch TV other than Jeopardy! every night (yes, every night - I am devoted to that show and determined to be a contestant).  But, saints on skates!  Alaina and I have found ourselves bonding over a multitude of fantastically entertaining fare lately.

Brain Games.

The Masked Singer.

Survivor (I was around for the season when Rob and Amber fell in love and my college freshman was a newborn during Season 2 in the Australian Outback (hands down the best-looking Survivor season)).

Splitcoaststampers Card Sketch Challenge SC789

I think all that TV watching is messing with my stamping mojo, though, because I found it difficult to make this card, even with the help of this week's sketch from Splitcoaststampers.

Thank You card using Free As A Bird and Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper

When in a stamping funk, my trick is to pull out a small pile of pretties and pile them on my desk.  I use only those supplies to make something.  It helps me focus.  In my pile was:

Thank You card using Free As A Bird and Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper

The Pool Party cardstock seemed too bright so I swiped a Whisper White ink pad across it a few times.  The look is GORGEOUS!  I'm definitely revisiting that trick to make a background for a future project!  The bird and leaves were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink (the ink to use when coloring with Stampin' Blends) and colored with Light & Dark Calypso Coral (bird) and Light & Dark Mossy Meadow (leaves) Stampin' Blends.

Cutting with Paper Snips: there are no dies for the the Free As A Bird set, but with the right scissors, it isn't hard to cut out the images.  Paper Snips are the best for what we call "fussy cutting" because they are small, which makes them easily maneuvered, and sharp to the tip of the blade.  A blade that's sharp to the tip means small snips and tight turns are a piece of cake!  You don't have to use the entire blade to cut, which makes cuts more precise.

Cutting Tip: move the paper, not your scissors.  Paper Snips are extremely sharp so moving the paper will give you a nice smooth outline that hugs the image.

Thank You card using Free As A Bird and Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper

Vellum always adds a subtle touch when you need "something" but not a lot of it (or you don't know what that "something" is 😂).  The greeting was stamped in Basic Gray ink on Gray Granite cardstock.  Gray Granite is not an "official" color in the Bird Ballad DSP, but that's ok!  Stampin' Up! is the best when it comes to color coordination but there are no stamping police that say you have to stick to the program.

Parisian Blossoms Magnificent Adventure + Free Tutorial

Good Monday morning, friends!  I have a sweet story for you that hopefully starts your week off on a happy note.  My grandmother fractured a disc in her back and has been in the hospital almost three weeks.  Friday was her 89th birthday (yes, she's a Valentine's Day baby) and when I called her hospital room to wish her a happy birthday, it was noisy and sounded like a party was going on.  I asked her about it and she told me my parents were there, both my aunts and uncles (her other son and daughter and their spouses), and my cousin.  They'd brought a cake with plates and utensils, balloons, and flowers.  PLUS the hospital staff came around to sing to her and give her a cake.  PLUS a volunteer group sang to her and gave her cupcakes.  My grandma - bedridden in the hospital for almost three weeks with a fractured disc and several infections and turning 89 years old - said excitedly, "This is the best birthday I've ever had!"  Isn't that cute?

It was a marathon stamp session Saturday and this is one of the projects that came from it.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Parisian Blossoms Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP)!  There was no way to pick a single pattern so I chose three and created a block layout to highlight them.

Parisian Blossoms suite card | Parisian Blossoms Designer Series Paper | Champagne Foil

Each DSP piece is cut to 2-3/4" x 2-1/8" and adhered with Multi Purpose Liquid Glue to a 4-1/4"x11" Thick Very Vanilla cardstock base.

A 3"x4" Champagne Foil piece is  tucked behind a 5-1/2"X2-3/8" piece of Vellum cardstock.  I love how the Champagne Foil picks up the champagne on the ribbon edge and in the rhinestone!  The Eiffel Tower is a die from the Parisian Dies that coordinate with the Parisian Blossoms stamp set (bundle them together and save 10%).  I used Cherry Cobbler cardstock to cut this out.  If you use this trick, the little pieces pop out easily.

Parisian Blossoms suite card | Parisian Blossoms Designer Series Paper | Champagne Foil

The greeting is from Parisian Blossoms and is stamped on a strip of Petal Pink cardstock in Pool Party ink.  I used a Bone Folder to curve the greeting strip and adhered it with Stampin' Dimensionals.  The Petal Pink Metallic Edge Ribbon is tied in a bow and anchored to the sentiment strip with a Mini Glue Dot.  A Champagne Rhinestone Basic Jewel adds a simple hint of sparkle.  **I'm just now seeing I left one little itty bitty piece in the die-cut.  I realize some of you are itching to reach into the screen and poke it out and I'll apologize right now for that bit of stamping indiscretion 😊**
